PollSee ("we," "us," or "our") operates the PollSee mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our Service.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name and email address
  • Authentication credentials (via email/password, Google Sign-In, or Apple Sign-In)
  • Profile picture (if you choose to upload one)
  • Username (optional)

Demographic Information (Optional)

To personalize your civic engagement experience, you may choose to provide age, gender, ethnicity, education level, and profession. These fields are entirely optional.

Address and Location Data

To show you relevant elections, representatives, and policy proposals for your area, we collect your street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Geographic coordinates are derived from your address for this purpose. We do not collect real-time GPS location.

Activity Data

When you use the Service, we collect:

  • Policy proposals you create, vote on, or comment on
  • Poll responses and survey answers
  • Content you view and interact with
  • AI-assisted policy generation usage

Device Information

We collect push notification tokens to deliver notifications and basic device information (device type and operating system).

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide and maintain the Service
  • Show you elections, representatives, and proposals relevant to your location
  • Enable you to create, vote on, and discuss policy proposals
  • Generate AI-assisted policy content based on your input
  • Send push notifications about activity relevant to you
  • Process premium subscription payments
  • Enforce rate limits and prevent abuse
  • Improve and personalize the Service

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Firebase (Google Cloud) servers in the United States. We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL) and secure authentication.

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where required by law to retain it.

Activity data such as votes and comments on public proposals may remain visible after account deletion but will no longer be associated with your identity.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data by viewing your profile in the app
  • Update your information through your account settings
  • Delete your account and associated data by contacting us
  • Opt out of push notifications through your device settings
  • Limit optional demographic information by leaving those fields blank

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
